Add a few dashes of chocolate bitters to cocktails or other beverages to add chocolate flavor, depth and complexity. Bitters are often added before shaking or stirring cocktails, but can also be added to drinks as a finishing touch - which emphasizes their aromatic qualities.
As a mixology ingredient, pair chocolate bitters with ingredients like vodka, tequila (anejo or repasao), mescal, rye whiskey, dark rum, dry and/or sweet vermouth, Scrappy’s Orange Bitters, Benedictine, Campari, crème de peach, or calvados.
Bitters can also be mixed with club soda, ice, and (if desired) simple syrup to make a refreshing beverage without any other ingredients.
Bitters aren’t just for use in drinks. They can also be used in sauces, desserts, baked goods and other dishes. The amount to use will vary with the application and how pronounced you want them to be. They are quite strong, so generally a little goes a long way.
