Add a few dashes of cardamom bitters to cocktails or other beverages to add cardamom flavor, depth and complexity. Bitters are often added before shaking or stirring cocktails, but can also be added to drinks as a finishing touch - which emphasizes their aromatic qualities.
As a mixology ingredient, pair cardamom bitters with ingredients like white rum, gin, whisky, Cointreau or triple sec, Campari, Benedictine, dry vermouth, Maraschino liqueur, yellow Chartreuse, or citrus (orange, grapefruit or lime). They’re particularly well suited to use in rum punch or hot toddies.
Bitters can also be mixed with club soda, ice, and (if desired) simple syrup to make a refreshing beverage without any other ingredients.
Bitters aren’t just for use in drinks. They can also be used in sauces, desserts, baked goods and other dishes. The amount to use will vary with the application and how pronounced you want them to be. They are quite strong, so generally a little goes a long way.
